Overview

Malta is an island country located in the Mediterranean Sea, in South of Europe, between Sicily in Italy and North of Africa. Malta has a beautiful Mediterranean climate and a very rich culture and history dating back thousands of years. 

There is a lot to do in Malta and it is a great island for a summer vacation but also as a great winter getaway in a short distance from central Europe. I personally really liked Malta especially for its great beaches, the amazing food and the one of a kind ancient sites.

Flights

Malta is well connected to most of West and central Europe by many flights across the EU (European Union) made most of the European airlines and also by the major low-cost airlines as well which makes it a great destination for finding an affordable flight from Europe. 

 There is one main international airport in the main island the Malta International Airport the airport is located in the main island and around 15-20 minutes from Valleta and 20-25 minutes to Sliema.

Climate

Malta has a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild rainy winters. The best time to come to Mlata for a summer vacation (swimming and other beach activities) is in Summer from May to the end of September. During the Winter Times (October to April) it is a great time for checking the island and enjoying the sun but less for swimming since the water are getting colder. 

Budget

The prices in Malta are very similar to the prices in Italy or France so if you are coming from one of them you will feel more or less at home. Its not a cheap destination like some places in the Balkans or East of Europe but it is not very expensive either.

Accommodation 

Hostels in Malta are well priced and will cost you around 12 EUR to 25 EUR per night depends on the location and the season. 

Hotels in Malta are surprisngly affordable as well and will cost you 25 EUR to 60 EUR for a nice simple room and 100-150 EUR per night for a more expensive hotels. 

Food

The Food in Malta is generally amazing! its a great mix of Italian Mediterranean and North African cuisine with some great fresh seafood options they get from around the Island. the prices are typically European prices and street food options will cost you 3-10 EUR and a meal in a simple restaurant will cost you 10-20 EUR. More fancy restaurants will cost you from 30 EUR to 100 EUR for a meal.

Transportation

The transportation in Malta is mainly based on buses, cars, taxies and ferries. the bus system in Malta is surprisingly good for an island so you would be able to travel around the main areas very easily and even to some of the popular places outside the cities. the connection between the main island and the smaller islands Comino and Gozo by a short ferry ride.

The most recommended way to go around is to rent a car if you are able to so you can drive around to the best beaches and place out of the city, if renting a car is not an option for you, buses will work great as well.

Safety

Malta is a very safe place to travel at, without any major danger of terror or serious crime. the crime rate in Malta is considered as low which means that the major risks are usually pickpocketing and other petty crimes. Please stay cautious around crowded places like in any other place in the world.

There are a few apps that are must have when traveling in Malta like eCabs and Bolt apps for booking taxis and rides. and Wolt and Bolt Food for food deliveries in case you want to order something to eat to your hotel or apartment.
