Hungary Complete Travel Guide
Overview
Hungary is a landlocked country located in Central Europe, Hungary is bordered by Austria in the west, Slovakia in the north, Ukraine in the northeast, Romania in the east, Serbia in the south, Croatia in the southwest, and Slovenia in the west. Which makes it a perfect country to start travelling around central Europe and the neighbor countries.
Most people will visit Budapest city (the capital) only but Hungary has much more to offer from national parks, lakes, a few Danube river bands, and Ski resorts.
I’ve been to Hungary a few times and i personally really like it, especially if you are looking for a nice Central European country (part of the EU) that is still somehow affordable to visit today.

Climate
Hungary has a climate with four seasons. Summers are warm and winters can be very cold with snow. Spring and autumn are generally mild and pleasant which is a great time to visit.
Budget
Budapest is a part of the EU (the European Union) which makes it a little bit more expensive than neighbor countries which are non-EU members like Serbia or Ukraine but still cheaper than most Western European countries.
Accommodation
Hostels in Hungary are pretty affordable and will cost you between 7 EUR to 20 EUR depends on the location and the season.
Hotels in Hungary are not very expensive either and ranging from as low as 18 EUR per night for a basic room and up to 100-200 EUR per night for 4-5 starts hotels and even more.
Food
Food in Hungary used to be a lot cheaper before the recent inflation and all but food options are still available affordably in Hungary if you know where to go.
Street food options will cost you around 3-5 EUR and a meal in a restaurant (not too fancy) will cost you around 10-15 EUR.
Transportation
Transportation in Hungary is mainly based on trains, buses and cars. Hungary is very well connected to the European train system and you can easily travel to most of the countries around (and further) easily. There are also a few international bus companies operating in Hungary like FlixBus to many destinations all over Europe.
Safety
Hungary is pretty safe in general and the crime rate is considered as low in the country but you should be cautious like any other country in the world.
The main risk in Hungary today is pickpockets and this kind of crimes in the crowded areas like Metro, Tram or busy streets in the big cities.
Useful Apps
Today we barely can “survive” an hour without our smartphones and traveling is no exception! so there are a few apps that are must have when traveling in the Hungary like Uber and Bolt for taxis and rides and Wolt and foodora for food delivery.
